BROOKPORT, Ill. (AP) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is getting ready to close its disaster recovery center in Brookport.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (https://bit.ly/1fxLFVY ) the facility in the Ohio River town will close on Saturday at 6 p.m.

FEMA set up shop in the Brookport Library after the Nov. 17 tornado outbreak that hit Illinois.

Three people died near Brookport when a tornado touched down in the small community of about 1,000 residents. It stayed on the ground for about 11 miles and was one of about two dozen twisters that rolled across Illinois that day.

After the facility closes, people will still be able to get help from the agency by calling its toll-free helpline.

People have until Jan. 27 to register for federal assistance.
