PHOENIX (AP) - Environmental projects along Arizona’s border with Mexico are getting a boost, thanks to funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The agency announced Tuesday that Arizona State University has been awarded a roughly $67,000 grant to find ways to reduce emissions from vehicles. Researchers will study emissions from idling vehicles at the Mariposa port of entry in Nogales.
The state Department of Environmental Quality is getting more than $63,000 to develop an Internet-based toolkit on best practices for reusing and recycling electronics in border cities.
The EPA’s Pacific Southwest administrator, Jared Blumenfeld, says the grants will help improve air quality and reduce the waste going into local landfills.
