TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols is happy with his offseason progress after dealing with injuries for much of last year.

Pujols had right knee surgery last spring and then missed the final two months of the season with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. In the second year of a $240 million, 10-year contract, Pujols had career lows of 17 homers and 64 RBIs in 99 games.

Pujols says he is “really excited” about how things are proceeding in preparation for the upcoming season.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said at last month’s winter meetings that he thinks Pujols is ready to rebound from the difficult season.

Pujols attended the opening event Wednesday night for Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation Golf Classic.
