MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Senate is set to vote whether to ratify a conference committee’s agreement on legislation setting new limits on campaign contributions.
The House gave its approval on a vote of 124 to 15 after a conference committee made up of House and Senate members agreed last week on the bill, which was held over from the 2013 session. The Senate is slated to take the measure up on Thursday.
The bill would double - from $2,000 to $4,000 - the amounts that individuals, corporations or political action committees would be allowed to donate to candidates for statewide office.
Contributions to state House candidates would be capped at $1,000, while Senate candidates could receive contributions of up to $1,500. The bill does not affect contributions to candidates for federal office.
