VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Operation Blessing International is teaming with a Japanese company to send two compact emergency water treatment units to the Philippines for typhoon relief.

The Virginia Beach-based charity announced its partnership with the Toray Group on Monday. Toray is a global leader in chemical technologies and water filtration.

More than 6,100 people have died and nearly 1,800 are missing from the typhoon that struck the Philippines on Nov. 8. Millions have been displaced, and food and clean water are in high demand.

Each of the compact treatment units Toray donated to Operation Blessing can purify 350 liters of seawater per hour, or 500 liters of fresh water per hour. The gasoline-powered units can remove viruses, bacteria, salt, heavy metals and organic substances.
