MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Police in Manchester, N.H., say some seniors have been targeted by callers pretending to be relatives needing money to help them after an accident or get out of jail.
Police said a 77-year-old woman said Saturday she wired $700 from a Rite Aid after someone called to say her nephew was in an accident in Mexico and needed money for repairs. She later learned he wasn’t there.
The same day, an 87-year-old man reported sending money to a caller who told him his grandson needed money to repair a vehicle following an accident, also in Mexico.
A 92-year-old man took a call from a woman who said she was his granddaughter, and that she had been arrested and needed bail money. He sent money to a location in Arizona.
