LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles Police Department vehicle carrying Mayor Eric Garcetti struck and injured a pedestrian in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, the mayor’s office said in a statement.

The statement did not detail the condition of the woman who was struck. She was taken to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said he was ordered not to release the pedestrian’s condition and referred calls to the mayor’s office. The mayor’s office would not provide details beyond what was in its statement.

The incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. as the vehicle traveled east on Second Street near Spring Street.

Garcetti’s office said the mayor has been interviewed by LAPD investigators, but he was on the phone and didn’t witness the collision.

“I’m very concerned about her and wish her a speedy recovery,” Garcetti said about the woman that was struck. “I look forward to speaking with her soon.”
