Last May, George Washington revealed the look for its new basketball court design, complete with images of the White House, the Capitol in 3-point range and a near sideline-to-sideline Washington Monument.
On Tuesday, the Colonials will break out new uniforms for the Atlantic 10 conference showdown versus VCU at the Smith Center. The gray Nike uniforms will match the iconic D.C. imagery court.
From the school’s press release: “On Tuesday, George Washington will wear the #MonumentalHomeCourtAdvantage on its jerseys, in gray Nike uniforms that will replace the familiar Buff and Blue for the clash with VCU.
“The distinctive design pays tribute to three iconic structures that are near and dear to the GW community. Every four years George Washington students celebrate the Presidential Inauguration just blocks away from campus, while dozens of university graduates have led long and prestigious careers in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. The Washington Monument, the most prominent structure in Washington, D.C., is dedicated to the honor of the first President of the United States and the university’s namesake.
“A hallmark of George Washington’s Athletics program has long been success through the recruitment of both local and international talent. The National Mall and the buildings depicted on the new uniforms blend the best of Washington with the international appeal of the most powerful city in the World.”
The players who will actually don the jerseys got their first look at the new gear when their head coach Mike Lonergan modeled one. No, seriously and there is video proof.
GW and VCU tip at 7 p.m. at the Smith Center.
