MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Legislature has started a three-month session that will lead into this year’s elections.
House Speaker Mike Hubbard and Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey gaveled both chambers into session a few minutes after the appointed starting time of noon Tuesday.
Senators and representatives will gather at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to hear Gov. Robert Bentley outline his goals in the State of the State address.
The new session is getting off to a faster-than-normal start. The House and Senate usually meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But legislative leaders say they plan to meet three days a week for the first two weeks and then do it several more times later in the session in hopes of getting their work done by early April. The primary election is June 3.
