PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A University of Rhode Island economist has given a mixed review of the state’s economy in November.

Prof. Leonard Lardaro said Monday his “Current Conditions Index” fell to 67 that month, from October’s level of 75. But he noted that several key indicators of the 12 he tracks continued to display “hopeful signs.”

Still, Lardaro said that for the fourth consecutive month, and the fifth time in six months, the index level was lower than it was a year earlier. He says the state is experiencing a slowdown in its rate of growth relative to the end of last year, which he calls discouraging.

Rhode Island’s unemployment rate was 9 percent in November.
