CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A dolphin found stranded last week on a South Texas beach has died.

Officials with the Marine Mammal Stranding Network say a necropsy will be done on the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that died Sunday.

The adult male dolphin was discovered last Wednesday in the surf on San Jose Island and then taken to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi.

Experts say the 500-pound dolphin was dehydrated and unable to swim on its own. Aquarium staffers fed the dolphin fluids, antibiotics and supplements, but the animal died.
