OHIOVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania police chief has retired as part of a pending plea agreement to settle criminal charges that he received about $64,000 in pay by entering false timecard information.
Attorney Myron Sainovich (SYN’-oh-vitch) says the retirement of 57-year-old Ronald Lutton is part of an agreement that will be finalized in March in Beaver County Common Pleas Court.
Lutton retired effective Dec. 31 as chief of the Ohioville police department.
Lutton was suspended from his job in August 2012 and charged in February 2013 with falsifying time sheets, altering documents and receiving wages for hours he allegedly did not work between Jan. 2009 and Aug. 2012.
The defense attorney says Lutton will plead guilty to a misdemeanor and agree that a portion of his police pension will be used to pay off the debt.
