NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a New York City man who used an oxygen tank was fatally burned after lighting a cigarette.

Relatives told the New York Post the tragic incident occurred Sunday afternoon.

They say Richard Aguilar was smoking in a recliner at his Staten Island home with his oxygen tank and ashtray nearby.

The man’s husband, Thomas Krisko, told the Post that the lit cigarette ignited Aguilar’s oxygen tank, fatally burning him.

The men had been married two years.

Krisko says Aguilar suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He says family couldn’t get him to stop smoking.
