ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Sen. Al Franken reports raising $2.1 million in the final three months of last year, and now has $4.8 million in the bank for his upcoming re-election campaign.

The Democrat released his latest fundraising tallies on Monday. He continues to be a prolific fundraiser, matching a $2.1 million figure that he raised from July to October. But he has also been spending money fast: while raising $2.1 million, he only banked about $900,000 of it.

Franken has five announced rivals seeking the Republican Party nomination to challenge him. Of the group, businessman Mike McFadden has shown the most fundraising strength so far. McFadden announced last week that he raised $780,000 from October through December and had $1.7 million in the bank so far.
