JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A former official of the federal Transportation Security Administration in Mississippi has appealed his murder conviction in the 2011 death of a co-worker.
The appeal from Ruben Orlando Benitez (beh NEE’ tez) is among dozens the state Court of Appeals will consider during its January-February term. The court will not hear oral arguments in the case. A decision will come later.
Benitez was convicted in Harrison County in 2013 for the fatal stabbing of Stacey Wright, who was killed in her home. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutor says Benitez told authorities that he killed Wright after the two argued about her wanting to end their affair.
Benitez and Wright had worked together for the TSA, providing security in airports.
