PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former manager for the Social Security Administration in Rhode Island has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for fraudulently selling $160,000 of a Coventry man’s stock investments after stealing his identity.

Fifty-year-old Randolph Hurst of West Warwick was sentenced to 39 months in prison in federal court in Providence on Friday. He is a former Social Security assistant district manager for Rhode Island who pleaded guilty to identity theft, fraud and tax charges in October.

U.S. District Chief Judge William E. Smith also ordered Smith to pay more than $245,000 in restitution.

Authorities said Hurst stole the victim’s personal information from a Social Security database, used it to open a joint brokerage account in his and the victim’s names and sold the man’s investments.
