A chess game gone awry led an Italian man to kill a religion researcher in his Dublin home, police said, announcing the arrest of the suspect on Monday.
The suspect, a 34-year-old Italian man who was not named in the BBC report, was charged with murder and is due to soon appear in court. The victim was Thomas O’Gorman, 39, who was found late Sunday severely beaten and stabbed to death in a “gruesome” scene, police said.
They say the killing was tied to an argument over the chess game that the two were playing, BBC said.
Mr. O’Gorman was a religion researcher, while the suspect worked in Dublin, police said.
