ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say dozens of residents of a Cottage Grove apartment complex had to be evacuated after a fire.

Cottage Grove police Sgt. Gwen Martin tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press (https://bit.ly/1dIxEhB ) residents reported the fire at the three-story apartment building a few miles southeast of St. Paul at 4:43 a.m. Sunday.

Martin says it’s believed the fire started in the common area on the second floor of a unit in the Woodland Park Apartments, where residents told authorities a couch was on fire. The blaze has been deemed suspicious, Martin said.

Martin said one person was taken to a hospital. The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing.

Cottage Grove Fire Chief Rick Redenius told the newspaper that the common area saw the most damage.
