BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Army National Guard’s state surgeon is retiring after serving more than 30 years in various roles with the Guard.
Col. Craig Lambrecht, of Bismarck, joined the Guard in 1983 as a second lieutenant. He has served as a physician, flight surgeon, deputy commander and commander. The Wishek native was appointed as the Guard’s state surgeon in 1995, a position held until his retirement.

In 2004 and 2006, Lambrecht deployed to Iraq where he served as the senior medical officer and field surgeon for a troop medical clinic southeast of Baghdad. Lambrecht was responsible for the medical care of multi-national coalition forces, contract workers and prisoners.
Lambrecht also helped expand and improve services at the Smith Gate Burn Clinic for pediatric burn patients across Iraq.
