CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The Senate is voting on a bill that would establish a crime of domestic violence in New Hampshire.
The bill was introduced following the death of 9-year-old Joshua Savyon, who was killed in August at a Manchester YWCA during a supervised visit with his father, who also killed himself.
Joshua’s mother, Becky Ranes, testified in favor of the bill last month. The bill is named after her son.
Gov. Maggie Hassan called for the bill’s passage in her state-of-the-state address. She called “Joshua’s Law” a common-sense measure to help law enforcement and prosecutors better identify and stop repeat abusers.
The Senate also votes Thursday on a bill allowing courts to limit parental visits to supervised visitation centers that use metal detectors and have trained security staff on site.
