MAGNOLIA, Miss. (AP) - Magnolia’s 13th annual Mardi Gras festival and parade are planned for Feb. 22-23 in the Pike County town.
The Enterprise-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1akYFw3) that new events this year include the Mardi Paws 5K run/walk, staged by the Krewe of PALS in support of the local PALS animal rescue shelter. The walk/run will be Feb. 22 at 8 a.m. in downtown Magnolia.
Magnolia’s Mardi Gras parade, with the theme Mardi Gras Masquerade, will be at 10 a.m. on Feb. 22.
The parade will begin at Eva Gordon Elementary School and wind through the downtown area before ending at South Pike High School.
There is no entry fee for participants; parade entry forms are available at Magnolia City Hall.
The festival theme is Mumbo Gumbo, celebrating the diversity of the Magnolia area.
It will begin Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. Saturday with carnival rides, food vendors, craft booths and entertainment.
“We decided to let people do whatever Mardi Gras means to them. It ought to be interesting,” said Jimmy Harris, president of the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is one of the sponsor organizations for the festivities.
