The White House was locked down for at least an hour Friday afternoon after a man tried to scale the complex’s north fence.
The Secret Service apprehended the man before he cleared the fence, and the lockdown was lifted at about 4 p.m. Friday.
Authorities now are examining two bags the man had in his possession. The suspect has not yet been identified.
President Obama was not in the White House at the time of the incident. The president spoke at Michigan State University on Friday afternoon and is due back in Washington later in the day.
