WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Montefiore Medical Center and White Plains Hospital are asking the state for permission to form a partnership.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1bvFaMn ) says White Plains would keep its own board of directors and operate under its own state certificate under the partnership.

Patients would be able to use Montefiore services not available in White Plains.

White Plains CEO Jon Schandler says the hospital also would retain its own management.

He says White Plains will continue a $40 million expansion of its cancer center.

The hospital has 2,300 full- and part-time employees. Schandler says it ended 2013 with a $3.5 million operating surplus.

In November, Montefiore bought Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon Hospital in a bankruptcy court sale. It also has physician offices in Yonkers and Hartsdale.
