Snow day for non-essential Portland city employees

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Because of the snow storm in Portland, Mayor Charlie Hales is telling only essential public employees to come to work Friday.

That includes the fire, police, water and transportation departments.

Other non-essential city employees are told to stay home. They will be paid.
