Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s political career could be in jeopardy.

That is according to a new Herald-Leader/WKYT Bluegrass poll that shows that Democrat Allison Lundergan Grimes holds a slim lead over Mr. McConnell in a potential general election match-up.

The survey found that Mrs. Grimes holds a 46 to 42 percent edge over Mr. McConnell, who has served in the upper chamber since 1985. It also showed that voters give President Obama a higher approval rating then the veteran GOP lawmaker.

The same poll showed that Mr. McConnell leads his primary challenger, Louisville businessman Matt Bevin, by a 55 to 29 percent margin. He faces off against Mr. Bevin in the May 20 Republican primary.

Mr. McConnell is trailing Mrs. Grimes among women and young voters — slices of the electorate that the GOP struggled to reach in the last presidential cycle.
