SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota universities and technical schools are spending more on administrators and professional staff compared to a decade ago.
The Argus Leader (https://argusne.ws/1ngTzBA ) reports a recently released study shows most of the new expenses are associated with jobs involving direct contact with students.
The report states the new positions were identified in financial aid, counseling, student activities and health care areas. The federal government has said those areas contribute to the students’ physical and emotional well-being.
The South Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, for example, has hired advisers to help students map a path to graduation.
The American Institutes for Research conducted the report.
The study also documents that part-time faculty hiring has increased in the last ten years, while the number of full-time professors being hired has declined.
