CHICAGO (AP) - Two public hearings are scheduled on a proposal to restructure much of the Illinois Medicaid health care system for low-income and disabled patients.

Hearings on the proposal, called a Medicaid demonstration waiver, will be held in Springfield on Feb. 14 and in Chicago on Feb. 20.

The plan aims to create more supportive housing for Medicaid clients and to consolidate nine programs that now serve different categories of disabled people. The plan also seeks more federal dollars for programs now funded exclusively with Illinois tax funds.

Gov. Pat Quinn’s office is expected to post the “Path to Transformation” proposal online Friday. Then public feedback will be taken before the plan is sent to federal Medicaid officials on March 10.
