EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - President Barack Obama says Michigan State University’s agricultural expertise made it the perfect place to sign a federal farm bill.

But he says he also traveled to East Lansing on Friday “to do some scouting on my brackets,” a reference to Michigan State’s highly ranked men’s basketball team and the upcoming NCAA tournament.

The president says the Spartans “are looking pretty good” right now after some tough losses. He says coach Tom Izzo “always paces so you peak at the tournament.”

Obama also praised the football team, which won the Rose Bowl. He joked, “you guys are greedy” and “want to win everything.”

Before signing the nearly $100 billion-a-year law, Obama ate lunch with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. His Michigan trip lasted about three hours.
