JACKSON, Ky. (AP) - The National Transportation Safety Board has found that an unmarked utility line caused a state police helicopter to crash last year.
The Lexington Herald-Leader (https://bit.ly/1duWBMY) reports that the NTSB found the utility wire that the helicopter clipped before crashing in Breathitt County was not shown on a navigation chart.
The pilot and a state trooper on board were looking for patches of illegal marijuana. They were seriously hurt in the crash.
The NTSB report issued last week said the wire had once served a coal mine, but the mine had been closed for some time and as a result no one had reported it to the Federal Aviation Administration.
