MILWAUKEE (AP) - Authorities say a 94-year-old Milwaukee woman with dementia died of hypothermia after being found in her apartment with the heat turned off.

The Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office says May Turtenwald fell in her bedroom Wednesday while the furnace was off and gas was running from the oven.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1aEMxGj) reports Turtenwald had severe dementia and was apparently confused. When her son found her later that day, her body temperature was 77 degrees.

Staff rewarmed Turtenwald in the emergency room, but she died in a hospital Thursday.
