COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Arizona man has repaid more than $100,000 following his sentencing on charges of stealing from a state retirement fund by never reporting his mother had died.
Raymond O’Dell pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft, identity fraud and tampering with records after an investigation by the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation into $102,488 stolen from the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.
Investigators say O’Dell spent money deposited into a joint account for his mother for more than two decades after her 1989 death.
The 70-year-old O’Dell was also sentenced to a year in federal custody last month for stealing $188,436 in Social Security checks meant for his mother while he was living in Washington state.
A message was left with O’Dell’s lawyer.
