WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 43-year-old Antonio Wrencher on Friday after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Wrencher attacked 37-year-old Cassandra Daly on Thanksgiving 2010. The Palm Beach Post (https://goo.gl/H9Ve9B ) reports that the couple had fought earlier in the day, and Daly was trying to avoid Wrencher when he found her.

Wrencher’s attorney argued the slaying was carried out in the heat of the moment and that Wrencher should only be convicted of manslaughter. That charge would have carried a maximum sentence of 15 years.
