RENO, Nev. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for much of the eastern front of the Sierra beginning Friday evening through Saturday morning.

It covers Lake Tahoe, Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Virginia City and surrounding areas.

The weather service says wind gusts could be as strong as 80 mph in wind-prone areas and more than 100 mph over the mountain ridges.

In the valleys, southwesterly winds are forecast at 25 mph to 45 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph.

The service warns the winds may create hazardous crosswinds on area highways and have the potential to damage trees and down power lines.
