CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Casper City Council member accused of having a conflict of interest says the city has not established it has the authority to remove him from office.
The Casper Star-Tribune (https://bit.ly/LEALjo) reports that Craig Hedquist made the argument in a motion filed Thursday in response to a petition laying out the city’s allegations against him.
The city conducted two investigations into Hedquist’s conduct. One concluded that he committed workplace violence by allegedly using “fighting words” in a confrontation with the city engineer. The other found evidence that Hedquist advocated more for his construction company than for taxpayers.
His motion states that a council member can only be removed by a recall election or if he’s convicted of certain crimes. He hasn’t been charged with or convicted of a crime.
