CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Sky player Elena Delle Donne is to be named a global ambassador for Special Olympics.

The WNBA star is to officially take the title Friday at Homewood-Flossmoor High School south of Chicago. An assembly and basketball clinic are planned.

Delle Donne has helped Special Olympics in the past. She has said the cause is near and dear to her because her older sister Lizzie has cerebral palsy and is blind and deaf.

The 24-year-old was the WNBA’s rookie of the year last season. She also earned all-star honors and was the second pick in the 2013 WNBA draft. She helped Chicago to its best season ever with the franchise’s first trip to the WNBA playoffs.
