ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - BB&T bank says it will close its Roanoke call center next year. About 140 employees will be affected.

Spokesman Brian Davis says the bank will make “every effort” to place the affected employees in other BB&T jobs. Most of the employees provide customer service over the telephone.

The Roanoke Times reports (https://bit.ly/1eFgzJC) that severance packages and outplacement services will be offered to employees still working at the facility when it closes in the summer of 2015.

The bank, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., operates 389 branches in Virginia.
