SCRANTON, Ark. (AP) - Several agencies are combining resources to offer a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a person who shot and killed a juvenile bald eagle in Lonoke County.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Friday that the eagle was shot between Jan. 12 and 18, and died on Friday.
Investigators say the eagle was shot near Scranton in western Arkansas.
Bald eagles and golden eagles are protected by state and federal law. Violations carry criminal penalties of up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Investigators ask that anyone with information about who shot the eagle call either the Fish and Wildlife Service or the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
