CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Yahoo Inc. is about to start construction on a new building at the University of Illinois and plans to almost double its workforce in Champaign.
Yahoo Senior Vice President Scott Burke said Wednesday that the new 40,000 square-foot building in the university’s Research Park will replace the existing space the company now occupies.
Burke tells The News-Gazette in Champaign (https://bit.ly/1btTWDn ) that Yahoo plans to add 80 employees. That would push its local workforce to almost 200.
Yahoo’s Champaign location focuses on digital advertising. The company opened the office in 2007 and said at the time that expansion was possible.
The state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is giving Yahoo a package of incentives for the expansion. It includes $2.8 million in tax breaks.
