Members of the Taliban say they’ve captured a major U.S. military asset – a working dog named Colonel.

The terror group released video footage of the dog, claiming it was wearing a harness with a GPS tracking device, a torch and a small surveillance camera when it was captured, Fox News reported.

The Taliban claimed the capture occurred in December, during a night raid that took place in Afghanistan. The International Assistance Security Force, led by the United States, just issued confirmation of the capture — but an official said the dog was British, not American, Fox News said.

“We can confirm that a military working dog went missing following an ISAF mission in December 2013,” IASF said, AP reported. “It is ISAF policy to defer identification to the appropriate national authorities.”

Colonel is a small dog, reddish-brown in color. The video shows a Taliban militant with long hair parading it before the camera.

In addition to the dog, the Taliban displayed various weaponry members said were confiscated during this same raid, AP reported.

Working dogs in Afghanistan are frequently used by ISAF forces – particularly German Shepherds, Labradors and Spaniels.
