CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s Health and Human Services commissioner says CVS Caremark’s announcement that it will stop selling tobacco products in all its stores is a bold and courageous move.

Nicholas Toumpas says the average annual medical costs related to smoking in New Hampshire are $729 million. He says almost 18 percent of adults in the state still smoke, and smoking is linked to 1,700 deaths per year.

Toumpas says CVS’ announcement should be used as a catalyst for change to take a major step closer to a healthier New Hampshire.
