NEW YORK (AP) - The defending champion Minnesota Lynx will begin the WNBA season on the road at Washington on May 16 as part of a five-game schedule on opening night to kick off the league’s 18th season.
The Los Angeles Sparks, under new owner Magic Johnson, will play at Seattle that night as well.
The Lynx also will be showcased on Memorial Day when they visit Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky. The Sky had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season and made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
The WNBA All-Star game will take place in Phoenix on July 19.
The schedule is more compact this season with the final regular-season games to be played on Aug. 17 so that the playoffs will be done before the women’s basketball world championship in Turkey that begins at the end of September.
