CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Gov. Maggie Hassan says New Hampshire must restore and increase the state minimum wage and work to close the salary gap between men and women.
The state Legislature in 2011 eliminated the state minimum wage and defaulted to the federal wage of $7.25 an hour. Last year, the Legislature rejected a measure to restore the state wage.
At her State of the State address on Thursday, Hassan encouraged businesses to work with the Legislature to set the most appropriate minimum.
She also noted that women in New Hampshire earn about 77 cents on the dollar compared to men.
There is legislation pending to balance that pay gap and she urged lawmakers to pass it.
