NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has testified that he was not told that a city vendor was financing a lavish Nagin family trip to Hawaii in 2004. Prosecutors are casting the trip as one of several bribes Nagin accepted during his time in office in exchange for giving out city contracts.

Nagin says his chief technology officer, Greg Meffert, indicated that he was paying for the Nagin family vacation.

Prosecutors say Nagin knew that the trip was paid for by Mark St. Pierre, who was convicted of bribery in 2011.

Meffert has testified that Nagin knew St. Pierre was paying for the trip.

Nagin was charged after leaving office in a 21-count indictment alleging bribery, money laundering, conspiracy and filing false tax returns.
