MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Enbridge Energy representatives are briefing North Dakota emergency response leaders on how the company would respond to a spill or other emergency.

Officials with the Canadian firm told people Minot Wednesday that safety is their top priority along the Sandpiper pipeline.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company is proposing the $2.6 billion, 612-mile pipeline to carry 225,000 barrels of oil daily from the oil patch to a hub in northern Minnesota and 375,000 barrels to one in northwestern Wisconsin.

North Dakota’s portion is 299 miles.

Another meeting is planned for Thursday in Grand Forks.

Enbridge is waiting for approval from the North Dakota Public Service Commission to build the line.
