PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) - Duke Energy is seeking proposals for solar power projects called for under a settlement the utility reached last year with consumer groups.

Duke Energy Indiana’s request seeks solar energy proposals that could provide up to five megawatts of electric power. Companies can propose one large solar power project or smaller projects of no less than 250 kilowatts each totaling up to five megawatts of power production.

Duke reached a settlement with consumer groups last August ending a challenge to the utility’s state air permit for its $3.5 billion, coal-gasification plant that went online last summer.

One option under that settlement was building or contracting for 15 megawatts of wind and solar energy. Duke has already agreed to purchase 10 megawatts of power from Purdue University’s planned Tippecanoe County wind farm.
