The White House has given the Pakistan government a tacit thumbs-up to a request to cut back drone strikes to decrease tensions as key leaders try to forge a peace plan with members of the Taliban.
“That’s what they asked for, and we didn’t tell them no,” one U.S. official told The Washington Post.
The Obama administration will reportedly still continue to use drones to strike against senior members of al Qaeda and respond with unmanned armed aircraft attacks to any perceived threat to America, Fox News reported.
At the same time, another senior White House official said the United States did not strike any deal with Pakistan to limit drone strikes, explaining that “the issue of whether to negotiate with the Pakistani Taliban is entirely an internal matter for Pakistan,” The Post reported.
Still, there has been a drop in drone strikes in Pakistan in recent weeks, Fox News reported.
