Why in heaven’s name is Governor “Traffic Jam” being invited to speak at this year’s Conservative Public Action Conference (“CPAC invites Christie to speak at March meeting,” Web, Feb. 3)?

Either you believe the media and this big-government Republican abused the power of his office, or you believe New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie himself, who claimed he was ignorant of what was going on in his administration to cause the massive traffic jam.

In either case, conservatives should be running away from Mr. Christie, not embracing him. I hope the organizers of CPAC are braced for revolt by grass-roots conservatives like me who consider it unacceptable to have invited another big-government Republican to speak at CPAC.

Last year, influence peddler and then-Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell spoke at a CPAC prayer breakfast, which I and others protested. Mr. McDonnell pushed through the largest tax increase in the history of Virginia. Needless to say, he did not come through the front door to the event.

Mr. McDonnell was followed by Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican; Donald Trump; and 2012 presidential contender Mitt Romney.

The American Conservative Union is losing all credibility by embracing these men. The organizers of CPAC have to understand that not all “Republicans” are conservatives.

True conservatives like me who are planning to attend CPAC 2014 need to contact the organizers and ask that they disinvite Mr. Christie. If they don’t, we will protest.
