ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A construction crew is at work building a clock tower on the campus of Dixie State University.

School President Stephen Nadauld tells The Spectrum (https://bit.ly/1auaYWO) that the tower will bring the school more in line with its recent university status.

Utah lawmakers and Gov. Gary Herbert last year approved Dixie State College’s bid to become a university and stick with its traditional name despite concerns from lawmakers and others about racial insensitivity.

Dixie State is the sixth school to become a university in Utah.

Equipped with speakers, LED lights and carillon bells to mark the hour, the 82-foot tower is scheduled to be up and working in time for school spirit week in April.
