CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A souvenir T-shirt touting Chesapeake missed the mark on the city’s founding by 175 years.

The T-shirt’s slogan reads “Chesapeake VA - American Original Since 1788.”

Chesapeake was founded in 1963 when Norfolk County and the city of South Norfolk merged.

The T-shirt was produced by Ohiopyle Prints near Pittsburgh. National sales manager Rob Anderson tells The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1c3hEGw ) that the company plans to correct the error.

Anderson says whoever came up with 1788 might have confused the date with the year that Virginia ratified the U.S. Constitution.

He says the company uses a similar template for shirts but uses customized information that’s usually found on the Internet.
