AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage says Maine has become more competitive and added thousands of jobs since he took office.
LePage made the remarks Tuesday in his State of the State before the Democratic-controlled Legislature.
The Republican governor says Maine’s unemployment rate has fallen to 6.2 percent, the lowest since 2008. He says the state has added 13,000 new private-sector jobs since he took office in 2011.
LePage says with his administration’s efforts, like paying off $750 million in Medicaid payments to the state’s hospitals and reducing taxes, the state is sending the message that it pays its bills.
